A blank canvas

You might remember in my last post I mentioned I was about to start on a commission for a lovely client? If possible, I like to visit the client on-site - that way, I can get a feel for the space, the light, and the bones of the room itself. She has a great mix of traditional and modern in her home, as she's retained the original charm and character of her Queenslander, but she's also included some clean, modern elements too. Elsewhere is a natural white, keeping things nice and airy.<br /><br /><br />So, after discussing the options, we decided on a modern abstract design, incorporating the raspberry, red/pink and olive green from her curtains, as well as some complimentary tones. Once that was sorted, I sent through a series of mock-ups of my ideas, to make sure we were on the same page, and also to provide a visual of what I'm thinking. I've found this really helps both me and the client - I'm a really visual person, but I realise not everyone works that way. By doing so, it really helps to iron out any misunderstandings before we're too far down the track.<br /><br /><br />So, that's enough from me - I have painting to do. Can't wait to share the finished painting with you all - and I have to say, it's a lot of fun to be working on such a large scale piece again. Beach house vignette

Clayfield - a work in progress

For some time now, I've been working on a very special project. My sister lives in a gorgeous old worker's cottage in the Brisbane suburb of Clayfield, and I've been helping her with its renovation. I absolutely love old Queenslanders, so not only do I get to work with my lovely sister, I also get to play with her very cute house! <br /><br />We've spent a long time looking for the perfect dining table and chairs, and as space is limited we needed to find something quite petite. I can't wait to share the finished product with you, it's quite the transformation. The house was completely original, and the kitchen consisted of a cupboard, a sink and an ancient sandstone fireplace. We now have a charming and airy space which complements the original cottage beautifully. Black + White = just right

Hi all,<br /><br />I'm madly trying to finish some artwork for a client, so today I thought I'd take a few more snaps of my studio. Of course, as I'm in the middle of working the majority of the room looks as though it's been ransacked, but I managed to find a few corners that were still photo-worthy!<br /><br />One of the things I enjoy most about what I do is being able to paint and decorate with colours I may not otherwise choose for myself. Some of my favourite jobs have been commissions where I've had set colours to work with and I've had to then design works to suit the space.<br /><br />These black and white paintings were done for a styling job I worked on last year. I always try to add texture and movement into my backgrounds, as I find it adds that extra dimension. Sneak Peek

  <br />Hi all,<br /><br />I don't know about you, but it seems the weeks are flying by, and the last few have been ridiculously busy. Today I plan to take a breather and get back into my studio for some long overdue art therapy. <br /><br />At the moment I'm working on some paintings for a lovely young lady's bedroom.
